John Cooper Paving & Sealing, Inc. installs new construction driveways, remodeling and parking lots. If the condition of your existing asphalt is beyond repair due to cracks, puddles, heaving rocks or just settling caused by old age, a new driveway is recommended.
Basic Installation Process
A bobcat is used to remove the existing driveway, if needed. The materials are then hauled away in our dump trucks.
Excavation work is done with a bobcat in order to remove any rocks, roots, very small stumps, and any other impurities that may be in the area.
In order to attain proper grade of the driveway and serve as a base to the asphalt, we lay and grade approximately four to six inches of recycled processed gravel. Once the gravel is completely graded, we will compact with our two ton vibratory roller.
Commercial grade binder asphalt is dumped from our trucks into our paving unit. Approximately two inches of binder asphalt is spread through our paving unit slightly compacting asphalt as it goes through. Once binder is complete, approximately one and half inches of top coat asphalt is spread through our paver with slight compaction. Once top coat is complete we will compact with roller.
Finally, glue and stone dust are added to the end of your driveway, which actually adheres it to the street. Stakes with caution tape are put across so that traffic will not pass through for three days.
Driveway Resurface/Overlay Installation for Boston, the South Shore & Metro West
Driveway Overlay usually applies to driveways with little or no cracks and driveways that already have base coat asphalt. A driveway overlay is also an option when someone is adding a new section of asphalt to their already existing driveway. They could overlay the existing driveway while installing the new section giving it the look of one brand new driveway.
Basic Overlay Process
The existing surface is cleaned extensively.
Top coat asphalt is dumped from our truck into our paver unit. The paver unit lays and slightly compresses approximately 2 inches of asphalt. To complete compression of the asphalt, it is rolled with our roller. Our compaction plate is then used in areas such as the edge of the driveway, where the roller cannot get to.
Finally, glue and stone dust are added to the end of your driveway, which actually adheres it to the street. Stakes with caution tape are put down so that traffic will not pass through.
